LEYDEN STREET TOILET REFURBISHMENT & CAFÉ/BAR

Tower Hamlets

We are pleased to announce that TCL Group have been awarded the contract for the refurbishment and re-modelling of the existing underground public toilets that have been inactive for over fourteen years to create a new social space, wine bar and modern toilets for the local community in Leyden Street and the surrounding area.

Tower Hamlets Council’s ‘High Street Team’ are delivering a number of high street regeneration projects consisting of public realm improvements, wayfinding and signage, revitalizing Petticoat Lane Market and activating underused assets and spaces.

As a key element in the Middlesex Street Regeneration programme, the Leyden Street toilet structure is considered a ‘non-designated heritage asset’ with many original features, the retention of which forms part of our scope of works to maintain as much of its unique characteristics as possible.

Above ground a new structural steel frame will be constructed together with a glazed kiosk for use as a café bar with striking and vibrant glass cladding to entice usage of the public space.
