TCL Group and PDA supported charity shortlisted to receive funds from the Masonic Charitable Foundation

After beating over 2,000 nominated projects, the Milton Keynes based charity Medical Detection Dogs has been shortlisted to win a share of a £3 million national prize fund from the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

The charity was founded in 2008 with two aims:

  • Medical Detection Dogs
  • Medical Alert Assistance Dogs

Medical Detection Dogs are trained to detect the odour of cancer. Their highly sensitive noses are capable of picking up the smell of cancer volatiles in urine or breath samples.

Medical Alert Assistance Dogs assist individuals who manage complex medical conditions, such as diabetes, on a day-to-day basis. The dogs are taught to identify the odour changes that are associated with certain medical events, such as a drop in blood sugar level.

The Masonic Charitable Foundation is giving away £3 million to 300 charities across England and Wales to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the United Grand Lodge of England.

Grants will be allocated based upon the results of an on-line vote with the winner receiving £25,000

“Having first met the team in 2016 both Neil Ogilvie (Chief Executive of the Painting & Decorating Association) and I are delighted to see that their continued dedication and commitment to providing ground breaking training with potentially life-saving results has been recognised.

We wish them every success in the competition and both TCL Group and the PDA will continue to support them in their fight against cancer and long term illness.”
